Invention of Lying 2: The Fib Whisperer
A social comedy about what happens when radical honesty becomes an institution, a brand, and a weapon—and imagination itself needs a defense.
Pitch Treatment
Act I — After the Discovery
The culture that learned lying exists begins building rules around truth. Mark and his family discover that the new order has not eliminated manipulation; it has merely changed its form.
Act II — The Truth Industry
The Guardians of Truth, Truth Ministry, brands, media personalities, self-help systems, political campaigns, and social rituals begin treating curated honesty as moral authority. The public learns that a statement can be factually accurate and still be misleading, cruel, self-serving, or coercive.
Act III — Imagination on Trial
Fiction, storytelling, metaphor, humor, mercy, and creative fabrication become the battleground. The Fabrication Festival and associated public events allow the abstract argument to become social behavior, family pressure, and visible cultural conflict.
Character Resolution
Billy must carry real causal weight. Mark must confront the consequences of his own philosophy as a parent. Elara’s break from rigid Guardian certainty needs action and cost. The ending should clarify the difference between truthfulness and humane judgment without pretending the distinction is simple.
Comedy Engine
The humor comes from technically truthful absurdity: disclaimers, curated vulnerability, “honest” advertising, public confession as branding, truth-only dating, literalist therapy, political framing, and institutions that insist factual correctness automatically proves virtue.
