Fluidic trunkways

A planetary network of guided routes and transfer basins—designed around currents and pressure rather than pavement.

A route is more than a line

Trunkways take advantage of predictable flow where appropriate, but require traffic control, separation zones and alternatives when a current becomes unsafe. Route corridors must accommodate more than one species and vessel class.

Junctions in three dimensions

Station approaches connect inhabited depths and operational conditions through managed transitions. An intercity terminal is also a refuge, maintenance facility and emergency communications node.

What happens when flow reverses

A route network must degrade gracefully. Alternate corridors and locally independent life support keep a single disrupted current from isolating an entire region.
